Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Antiracist, the sentence that travelled: “The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination.” Then: “The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.” Discrimination that produces “equity” is antiracist. Discrimination that does not is racist. There is no third box.

What did have a receipt:

The book became the staff-development text. The AFT put Kendi on the TEACH 2021 stage the same week its president said CRT was not taught in schools.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made discriminating “against any individual” because of race unlawful. Chief Justice Roberts, Parents Involved (2007): “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.” Kendi’s only is the opposite sentence.
Later editions softened the wording. The first sentence is the one the schools bought.

Grammar: only. Logic: a remedy that is more of the same thing is a slogan. Rhetoric: antiracist.
