Daniel Andrews, 12 February 2021. A Holiday Inn cluster, UK strain. ABC: a “short, sharp circuit-breaker” for five days, “to avoid a longer lockdown in the future.” Stage 4, the whole state, Friday night to Wednesday night. “The alternative is potentially devastating.”
This card files that bargain. It does not file “never lock a door.”
What did have a receipt:
- That five-day snap was one of six Melbourne lockdowns. Guardian, 22 October 2021: stay-at-home orders ended after a cumulative 262 days.
- ABC Fact Check: 262 days is the Victorian total; the longest single stretch was 111 days. “World’s most locked-down” is a different argument (Iquique, 287). The slogan was five days to avoid longer. The meter is 262.
Grammar: five days, circuit-breaker. Logic: a running total is not a snap. Rhetoric: short, sharp.
