The day after the Senate voted to “reject critical race theory from the national curriculum,” Kathomi Gatwiri and Leticia Anderson wrote the line that travelled: CRT “is not part of the Australian curriculum.” Every time race is mentioned, they said, it does not mean CRT is being applied.

This card files that sentence. It does not file “any mention of race is CRT” and it does not file the IPA’s campaign that the system is ruined.

What did have a receipt:

  • The same article defines CRT as a lens for “structural and institutional racism,” racism as more than individual prejudice, “deeply embedded in policies, laws and institutions.”
  • Racism. No Way!, managed by the NSW Department of Education “on behalf of all Australian schools,” teaches Year 9–10 students institutional / systemic racism and white privilege. The NSW department tells teachers that racism is “reinforced and maintained through power structures.”
  • ACARA Year 4 essential knowledge, code AC9HS4K04: contact after the First Fleet “was viewed by First Nations Australians as an invasion.”
  • The IPA Schools Program called those “undertones of Critical Race Theory.” The undertones have official URLs. The name does not appear on the syllabus cover.

Grammar: not part of. Logic: a theory can arrive without its brand. Rhetoric: not CRT.
