FIRE THE LIAR!

Albo thinks $27 buys him the right to silence us. We think Australians deserve a real choice.

Donate to help One Nation's quest to FIRE THE LIAR!

Albo Lied about:

  • Immigration Levels
  • Energy Prices
  • Isis Brides coming back into the country
  • Medicare and Bulk Billing
  • Axed Stage 3 Tax Cuts
  • Changes to Capital Gains Tax
  • Voice to Parliament
  • Changes to negative gearing
  • $275 reduction in electricity prices
  • Falling off a stage

How many more lies will Albo tell before the end of his term in Government?

Same slogan, public reporting

One Nation on Wednesday launched its own fundraising campaign around the slogan "Fire the Liar".

We can't assume Albanese "lied" in the campaign. To lie is, in a dictionary definition, "to say […] something that is not true in order to deceive someone". We don't know (beyond reasonable doubt) whether, when Albanese before the election flatly ruled out changing negative gearing and capital gains tax, he was saying one thing and intending (if conditions suited) to do another.

But by changing the tax arrangements in the budget, he was certainly breaking his word, breaching faith with voters.

$275 household bills

RMIT / ABC Promise Tracker — abc-275-2023-05-19.html, rmit-275.html

Labor’s Powering Australia plan (2022 election): “Independent modelling shows Powering Australia …will bring down household power bills by $275 in 2025.”

Albanese, 3 December 2021 press conference:

electricity prices fall from the current level by $275 for household[s] by 2025, at the end of our first term, if we are successful.

Asked whether that was possible in the time:

I don't think, I know. I know because we have done the modelling.

He repeated the $275 line at least until 18 May 2022 (National Press Club). The RepuTex modelling predated Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (24 February 2022). The tracker last updated 19 May 2023; the ABC is no longer updating Promise Tracker.

Household electricity CPI, year to June 2026: +22.4%, “largely because government rebates which reduced household electricity bills have ended.”

That is not a $275 cut by 2025.

Stage 3 tax cuts

ABC, 8 February 2024 — abc-stage3-2024-02-08.html
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-02-08/stage-3-tax-cuts-my-word-is-my-bond/103443980

"My word is my bond," said Anthony Albanese not long after becoming PM

Parliament then confirmed a redesign of the legislated Stage 3 cuts. Albanese later used that redesign as the precedent for the 2026 tax changes (see below).

Announced 12 May 2026; now law. From 1 July 2027:

  • negative gearing for residential property limited to new builds
  • 50% CGT discount replaced with inflation indexation and a 30% minimum tax on gains accruing after that date

PM, Sky News Q&A, 5 June 2026 — pm-qa-2026-06-05.html

Clennell plays campaign tape. “Do you rule out negative gearing? You did. Why can't you win an election by telling the truth?”

Because it wasn't our position then. We have changed that, we have changed our position, Andrew, just as we changed our position in the last term on the stage three tax cuts.

Grattan: nothing substantial changed in housing or tax policy between the 2025 election and the budget that would meet the usual “circumstances changed” test.

The page also files Voice to Parliament (Labor held the 14 October 2023 referendum it promised; it lost), Falling off a stage (a stumble), Immigration Levels, Medicare and Bulk Billing, and Isis Brides as “lies,” with no quoted sentence under any of them.

Broken word, failed referendum, and a trip over a step share one heading.
