Ten lies, one list
A $275 promise, a tax backflip, and a trip over a step. Same label for all three.
Albo Lied about: Immigration Levels • Energy Prices • Isis Brides coming back into the country • Medicare and Bulk Billing • Axed Stage 3 Tax Cuts • Changes to Capital Gains Tax • Voice to Parliament • Changes to negative gearing • $275 reduction in electricity prices • Falling off a stage
One Nation, June 2026. The fundraising page is titled FIRE THE LIAR! Under that: “Albo Lied about,” then ten bullets, then “How many more lies will Albo tell before the end of his term in Government?” No source, date, or quote under any item. Michelle Grattan recorded the slogan the week it launched. The Tele ran the ad: “Stop Labor. Fire the Liar. Donate Now.”
This card files that list. It does not file “Albanese is a liar” and it does not file “Albanese kept his word.”
What did have a receipt:
- $275. 3 December 2021: Albanese said bills would fall “from the current level by $275 for household[s] by 2025.” Asked if that was possible: “I don’t think, I know. I know because we have done the modelling.” He was still saying it on 18 May 2022. ABS, year to June 2026: household electricity +22.4%, “largely because government rebates… have ended.” That is not a $275 cut by 2025.
- Stage 3. After the 2022 election he said “my word is my bond” on the legislated cuts. In January 2024 the government retooled them. A broken word. Also the template for the next one.
- Negative gearing and CGT. Ruled out on the 2025 hustings. Budget night, 12 May 2026: negative gearing limited to new builds from 1 July 2027; the 50% CGT discount replaced with inflation indexation and a 30% minimum tax. Now law. On 5 June, asked why he ruled it out then did it: “We have changed that, we have changed our position… just as we changed our position in the last term on the stage three tax cuts.” Grattan: breaking your word is not, by itself, proof you lied (intent to deceive). It is still a breach.
What the list also filed as a lie:
- Voice to Parliament. Labor promised a referendum and held it (14 October 2023). It lost. A failed vote is not a secret second position.
- Falling off a stage. A stumble. It does not have a Hansard.
- Immigration Levels, Medicare and Bulk Billing, Isis Brides. On the page. No cited sentence.
Three of the ten bullets have a dated promise and a later act. One is a referendum they held. One is gravity. The heading is the same.
The nickname arrived fully formed. The charge sheet mixed the ledger with the trip.
