The rights were going. The bill was not produced.
People of a different race shouldn’t lose their rights. And queer people have already had a lot of issues with fighting for their rights, and if that gets taken away too, that’s not OK.
Kaylee, Year 8, Melbourne, 13 August 2026. Mum asked for reasoning and got a four-page essay. The essay is not in the paper. Asked why Hanson should not be in charge, Kaylee said: “I just don’t think she should be able to make those kinds of choices.”
Same day, same city, Georgia, 15, told the ABC she was tired of “the injustices that Pauline Hanson is threatening … if they go into office.” No office, bill, or date attached.
What is on the record, and is not this claim:
- Hanson did say “monocultural” Australia at the Press Club in June. That is a real sentence. It is not a drafted law that strips race or queer rights from Year 8s.
- One Nation’s rise is real: Roy Morgan 26% primary the week of the walkout.
- NUS had a sharper, checkable complaint: her Senate votes against free TAFE, school funding and HECS relief. That belongs in a voting-record argument. It was not what Kaylee was asked, and not what she answered.
Feeling that rights are about to go is a feeling. The hall files the gap between that feeling and the missing instrument.
